It depends on the role. For underground work, the Formation modulaire du travailleur minier (FMTM) is generally required. Many surface positions offer on-the-job training. A GEMS recruiter can confirm the requirements for each posting.
Yes, some positions — mostly in Nord-du-Québec, such as Chibougamou and further north — are offered as FIFO with camp housing. In Val-d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, many positions are residential.
